، وكافة الويكيات المستضافة في ويكيا، بالإضافة إلى مواقع أخرى كثيرة. في الأصل تم تطويره ليخدم إحتياجات ويكيبيديا ،
الموسوعة ذات المحتويات الحرة ، لكنه الآن يستخدم كحلول لإدارة المعرفة وكنظام إدارة محتوى. والجدير بالذكر أن نوفل Novell تستعمل ميدياويكي لتشغيل العديد من مواقعها ذات معدلات زيارة مرتفعة.
اللغة المستخدمة في برمجة ميدياويكي هي بي إتش بي PHP وهي متكاملة مع قواعد بيانات ماي إس كيو إل MySQL وبوستجري إس كيو إل PostgreSQL. ميدياويكي ينتشر تحت رخصة جنو العمومية وهو مجاني ومفتوح المصدر. |
